Benefits of ballet fitness classes

Ballet is a world-renowned dance practiced by many from childhood to adulthood. Fitness Ballet or Ballet Fit is an adaptation of Classical Ballet technique and has become very popular among American celebrities since 1970’s with Jane Fonda and Judi Sheppard Missett.

Ballet Fitness is for everyone, and no previous dance experience should be required for you to take an adult ballet fitness class.

Ballet fitness is a fusion of ballet barre moves and fitness techniques that will challenge your body in numerous ways. Ballet fitness workouts often includes the use of a ballet barre, a piece of equipment dancers use for support as they work through the ballet positions and exercises required to train and hone their bodies. The range of movements, stretching and conditioning with the physical exertion from the actual workouts help people develop stronger, leaner limbs and core, improve flexibility, posture and increase stamina.

One of the most wonderful benefits of ballet and barre fitness is that it significantly improves cognitive well being. During a single ballet fitness class, exercises to improve balance, co-ordination, rhythm and memory are included. Repeating ballet moves and recalling different patterns, not only improves muscle symmetry in the legs, arms and core but also acts as a mental exercise.

Active stretching is an integral part of every ballet fitness class. As well as helping individuals become flexible, stretching in this way increases the body’s range of motion, allows blood flow to the muscles, reduces muscle soreness and eases stress.

Ballet Barre workouts are extremely effective in creating a strong, lean, flexible physique. When combined with fitness based conditioning, as well as exercises to improve balance and flexibility, ballet fitness followers see improved muscle strength, a more defined core and lean legs, cardiovascular improvements, as well as a refined posture.

Adult ballet classes create positive emotions through revisiting memories. They are often full of students who love the feeling of dancing either because they never had the chance to experience a ballet class as a child or because they did not carry it on as adults. The emotional and social connection with the music and movements release feel good endorphins, encouraging self-expression which boosts self-esteem and emotional well-being.

As we age, our bodies become stiffer. Our joints are less mobile and we begin to gradually lose muscle mass. Ballet fitness workouts include a fusion of exercises to increase endurance, strength, balance and help anyone to stay flexible. This modality is also indicated for women who at some point in their lives did ballet and for some reason stopped. Or even for those who always dreamed of doing baller and who for some reason couldn’t.

Testimonials

I don't remember how my passion for dance has started, perhaps it was by watching musicals on TV or by seeing my cousin's presentations on stage... I only know that I fell in love with dance and I started classical ballet at about 10 years old. After that, I always practiced a modality of the dance: jazz, modern and contemporary ballet, and between pregnancies I never stopped exercising. But my desire to practice classical ballet still existed, even though at an unconventional age. And that's when I found Fitness Ballet with teacher Andriza, who besides bringing classical steps and positions also brought the proposal of a healthier body. What a finding... A very dedicated and careful teacher who provided magical moments back to the golden times of ballet, as well as encouraged us to have a healthier body and life. And at the end of each class, each of us had a relaxation and massage session. Being 56 years old, I feel fresh and realised practicing Fitness Ballel I aim to eat well in order to perform movements and exercises more promptly. We are sad to say goodbye to Andriza, but we will be accompanying her life in Australia and we hope that her students there have the same pleasure we've had in having classes with a teacher who is such a great professional and also shows afection and dedication to her students. [...] I thank Andriza for helping me realise my dream."

I'm a 38-year-old Brazilian woman. When I was 17, I was diagnosed with a brain arteriovenous malformations (BAVM) - a rare congenital disease -, after an hemorrhagic stroke. It affected the right side of my body and my balance. After so many years in physiotherapy, in 2007, I discovered the best exercise for my body: yoga and dance. It covers body and mind and totally replace other body treatments, at least in my case. In 2016, in Porto Alegre, Brazil, I met a very important person in my development: Andriza Freitas, teacher of yoga and fitness ballet just arrived from China, where she had developed dancing techniques. We had classes for about a year. She was always very careful and respectful of the limits of each person in class. I miss her here in Brazil, but I know she has a beautiful journey helping other people to increase their body health in Australia! Dancing keeps me healthy and happy to face the challenges of life!"
